Under Deck Drainage

An elevated deck can double as a roof, offering an affordable way to add value and functionality to your home. At All Decked Out, we custom-build our own systems to ensure exceptional results. By installing a protective EPDM layer over the joists before the decking is installed, you can achieve dual benefits: safeguarding the structural framing and creating a usable, sheltered space below. Gutters and downspouts are always included. A finished ceiling is a great addition to these systems.

Regardless of how you decide to use your new, improved – and protected – space under your deck, with All Decked Out you can rest assured that your investment is protected for decades to come. While these systems may not be 100% waterproof a vinyl ceiling or pvc ceiling is recommended. A finished ceiling is not required but does put a nice touch on any project. Lights, ceiling fans, speakers are common added features.

Benefits of an Under-Deck Drainage System

  1. Creates Usable Outdoor Space
An under-deck drainage system transforms the area beneath your deck into a dry, usable space that can be converted into a patio, storage area, or additional living space.
  2. Protects Deck Structure
By channeling water away from the deck’s framing using systems that go over the top of the framing, they prevent moisture buildup, reducing the risk of rot, mold, and structural damage to the deck joists and beams.
  3. Extends Deck Lifespan
Keeping the deck structure dry increases its durability and longevity, minimizing the need for future repairs or replacements.
  4. Increases Home Value
A well-protected deck with a usable space below adds value to your home by enhancing outdoor living options and overall property appeal.
  5. Improves Aesthetic Appeal
Concealed drainage systems maintain a clean, polished look underneath the deck, making the space more attractive for leisure or storage use.
  6. Enhances Comfort
The system creates a dryer, sheltered area, providing shade and protection from rain, so you can enjoy your outdoor space in various weather conditions.
  7. Supports Future Enhancements
An under-deck drainage system is an excellent foundation for adding lighting, ceiling fans, or other amenities, making it easier to upgrade your outdoor area in the future.

Why Install an Under-Deck Drainage System?

Instead of debating over having a deck vs patio, consider having both. With a two-story deck, meaning you have an elevated deck to create a room beneath, you can install a ceiling to create a more finished living space with lights and fans. With a protected area, you can be as creative as you like! Here are a few ideas:

  • Add a big screen TV, sound system, comfortable seating, and a wet bar, and you instantly expand your party space by finishing the area beneath your two-story deck. Be sure to buy a weatherproof TV for outdoor use.
  • Install a full outdoor kitchen or roll out a portable cart to your patio table and chairs for your next dinner party. Eat outside without having to worry about the forecast with your under-deck living space. Add some screening, and you won’t even have to worry about the bugs.
  • Create a comfortable seating area. Think about how you’d like to use your deck for yourself, your family, and for entertaining with friends. Instead of uncomfortable lawn chairs, maybe you need a couch and chairs with fun and functional cushions. Perhaps you’d like to add a hammock or a swing. Really great seating will make you want to spend more time on the deck!
  • Relax and enjoy. Nothing beats a hot tub in the quiet, private space beneath your two-story deck. Make it your weekend oasis.
  • Increase your storage. Everyone these days could use a little more storage. Check out some of these creative storage ideas for under your deck.
